All friends and family are invited to a birthday celebration for Rosalie Hill on her 80th birthday. Festivities will be held at the Hampton Inn conference room on April 16, from 2 p.m. until 4. No presents are asked but cards are welcome.

The youth of Shiloh Baptist Church are continuing their efforts to raise money for a trip to Camp Victory in Samson. This Saturday, they will have a car wash from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m., at the Wal-Mart parking lot. There is no charge for this service, but a donation would be greatly appreciated.

April 17

Buckaloo Pentecostal Holiness will hold its annual homecoming on Sunday, April 17. Worship services begin at 10:45 a.m. Guest speaker will be Bro. Byron Pitts from Brewton. Spoken For Trio will be singing in the morning at at 1:30 p.m.

The Butler County Modern Singing Convention will be held at Beeland Park on Sunday, April 17, beginning at 10 a.m. Everyone is invited and asked to bring a basket lunch.

Are you interested in mule plowing, cane mills, blacksmith, making soap, quilting, old tractors, milking, churning butter, weaving, spinning, sawmills, etc…. Then come to an organizational meeting for "Old Time Farm Day" April 28 at 7 P.M. at the Pioneer Electric Engineering Building.

April 20

The East Chapman Baptist Church will hold its spring revival from Wednesday, April 20, through Friday, April 22. Services begin at 7 p.m. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Rick Freeman from Victory Baptist Church in Andalusia. There will be special music each night.

April 21

The Butler County Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Thursday, April 21, at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at the central office boardroom on Administrative Drive.

April 22

The Welcome Baptist Church will hold revival services from Friday, April 22, through Sunday, April 24. Friday services will feature the Rev. James Owens and begin at 7 p.m. Saturday services feature the Rev. Andy Till at begin at 7 p.m. Sunday services feature the Rev. J.T. Guyton. Refreshments begin at 6 p.m. with services at 7 p.m.

April 24

Harrison Street Baptist Church invites all to attend its annual women's day celebration on April 24 during their 11 a.m. worship hour. Evangelist Veronica Cheatham will be the guest speaker. All women are asked to wear white.

Butler Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church will hold its 138th anniversary on April 24. Worship services begin at 11 a.m. with dinner at 2 p.m. On Saturday, April 23, there will be a special "Get Acquainted" banquet at 7 p.m.

The Old Elam Baptist Church will be honoring its pastor, the Rev. John McMeans, on his fifth anniversary on Sunday, April 24 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Robert White, pastor of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, will be the speaker.

May 1

Homecoming services at Friendship Methodist Church will be held Sunday, May 1, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Ed. Williams, a retired Church of God minister, will be the guest speaker. Lunch will be served at noon. Congregational singing will follow in the afternoon beginning at 1 p.m.

Ongoing Announcements

The Stanford Achievement Test and the Alabama Reading and Mathematics Test Part 2 will be administer in the school system during the first two weeks in April. The Stanford test will be given in grades one through eight April 4 to 8. The Reading and Math test will be given in grades three though eight on April 11 through 13. These assessments are part of what the state Department of Education utilizes to determine the accountability status of each of the seven school and the system. Schools must test 95 percent of enrolled students.

Greenville High School is accepting $1 donations on chances for a Mother’s Day Basket. This is to raise money for the Relay For Life. The basket includes chocolates from Russell Stovers, 1 year subscription to The Greenville Advocate, gift certificates worth $20 to Ruby Tuesday, complimentary meal for two at Cracker Barrel, picture frames, a purse from Alisa’s closet and much more. The basket values over $300. Come by the school to give your donation of $1 per chance for this basket.

A emergency cell phone drive in underway for the Save-A-Life, Give-A-Phone foundation. Phones collected are refurbished to provide emergency access to battered women shelters, elderly and those in need. The local drop-off point for used phones is Walker Business Machines on East Commerce Street.

The Greenville YMCA will begin a math tutoring program beginning March 28. This tutoring session will meet on Monday and Wednesday from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. in the library at the YCMA.

Tyrone Brown, a graduate of Morehouse College with a degree in Advanced Math and Civil Engineering, will teach the course. Call the YMCA at 382-0550 for more information.
