Ready to ditch your summer duds, but the thermometer suggests otherwise? Don't despair. You can fashionably transition into fall without suffering under layers of sweaters and tweed jackets.

Let's take a look at ways to look cool this fall – without breaking a sweat.

n Linen lives on into fall. "We have ladies who love their linens, and we have a line called Donna that offers two-piece sets with pants or skirt. The colors are the jewel tones big this fall, so you can have your linen and still be in season," Katrina Scofield of the Pineapple in Greenville says.

n Go for a new necklace. "The great, long, statement necklaces can be worn alone or in multiples," Constance White, eBay style director says.

n Look for the jewels. The jewel tones, that is. Short-sleeved, comfortable garments in amethyst, emerald and ruby red are perfect this fall and they complement all the folks still sporting their (real or faux) tans.

n Tanks so much. Tank tops trimmed in sequins are a fun and cool way to transition into fall. These embellished tanks are great matched with jeans or sparkling skirts for a more glamorous look.

n Forever in blue jeans. According to Diane Orsino of DramaQueenStyle.com, embellished jeans are very fashionable for the fall. Skip the bulky sweaters and boots for now, and pair with stilettos and one of these afore-mentioned trendy tanks.

n Be a peasant. Peasant-y tunics and broomstick skirts continue to reign, "and the cottons and other lightweight fabrics used in these are very wearable in our climate," Scofield says.

n Grab a bag. One of the new hobo bags, structured bags with metallic hardware, and anything oversized will add "extra color and style to any outfit," Orsino says.

n Consider a camisole. "We're seeing camisoles in pretty paisleys for fall, layered under jackets and these great little bolero sweaters," Scofield says.

n The eyes have it. "Break out the liquid eyeliner to give your eyes a bold new look for fall," Glenda Chancellor of Merle Norman Studio of Greenville says.

n Gauchos are back. Cropped pants and gauchos can be worn into the fall. Boots will complete the look up North, but here in the South, consider a nice pair of round-toed pumps for a new, chic look.

n A touch of Victoria. Lacy, frilly, ruched blouses in the Victorian style can be paired with a basic pair of slacks or a skirt for a beautiful, feminine fall look.

n Strike gold. Gold in shoes, whether flats or heels, is very big this fall.

n Nailing down a look. "A switch to mauve and soft plum shades in nail polish definitely looks like fall," Chancellor says.

n Go bolero. "Shrugs, boleros and cropped tie-front sweaters are all very much in fashion – and certainly not as bulky or heavy as a regular sweater or jacket in a layered look," Scofield says.
