For all those who miss the sound of music wafting through Confederate Park each Thursday night, never fear.

Main Street's popular "Concert in the Park" series of the spring and summer is back for the month of October.

The concerts will kick off at 6 p.m. each Thursday through the month, weather permitting, Nancy Idland, Greenville Main Street director, said.

"We have a wonderful musician from north Alabama coming to perform on October 6, Tom Gassaway. He's a terrific saxophonist and I'm sure everyone will enjoy hearing him," Idland said.

Gassaway, a Mississippi native, have been performing on the saxophone since his high school days. He says he paid most of his way through college performing in dance bands.

During his nearly 30 years working with Alabama Power, Gassaway largely put his tenor sax "on mothballs."

In 1998, the saxophonist joined City Slickers, a popular dance and show band in Montgomery, going on to perform with them for the next seven years.

He was also part of the Anniston-based Ryan Robertson Band.

"About two years ago, I started developing a solo act, playing the sax live with accompaniments from digitally recorded tracks. The repertoire is pretty diverse – from '30s swing and big band to jazz, Latin, ballads and pop music," Gassaway said.

On Oct. 13, two of the blues musicians competing in the upcoming Sweet Gum Bottom Blues Fest are slated to perform in the park.

Refreshments will be available at the concerts.

"I encourage everyone to come out and enjoy these talented folks each Thursday night in beautiful Confederate Park," Idland said.
