coach Mike Williams isn't looking to put any bulletin board material on the walls inside his team's locker room.

He isn't concerned with the fact that the Tigers' upcoming opponent has not lost a regular-season game in the past 39 games.

He isn't concerned with the fact that Demopolis is winners of its last 24 games, including the Class 4A championship.

That has no bearing for the Tigers' coach.

&#8220We're just trying to get better, so that stuff won't play into the game Friday night,” Williams said. &#8220We're practicing to become a better football team.”

The Tigers are coming off a 20-0 loss to Russell County, while Demopolis is coming off its sixth shutout in the last nine games.

&#8220They are ranked No. (2) in the state for a reason and that's because they haven't lost a game since they won a state title,” Williams said of Demopolis.

And Demopolis isn't just coming away with narrow victories, either. The Hornets have outscored their last nine opponents by a combined score of 416-26. The most points Demopolis has given up was two weeks ago in a 49-14 rout of Jemison.

&#8220They execute well and have skill people everywhere,” Williams said. &#8220I watched them with Jemison and Greene County, and it looked like a track meet.”

Demopolis' top track star would have to be its quarterback, Dontrell Miller. Miller has completed 53 percent of his passes on the year for 1,474 yards and 14 touchdowns. Miller also doesn't make many mistakes. He has thrown just four interceptions in 146 pass attempts. Miller also is the Hornets' second-leading rusher with 620 yards on 72 rushes and five touchdowns.

&#8220They have totally skilled athletes everywhere,” Williams said. &#8220Their offensive line is the best I've seen all year. They are a very dominating offense. I don't see a weakness there or on defense.”

The only chink that can be found in Demopolis' armor would be penalties. The Hornets have drawn twice as many penalties as their opponents this season. Demopolis has been flagged 133 times for 1,062 yards, while its opponents have been penalized 61 times for 553 yards.

While Greenville

is preparing for its final matchup

of the season, the work is not over for the Tigers after Friday night, Williams said.

&#8220We're still working on fundamentals in Week 10 of the season,” Williams said. &#8220At some point these guys will take that next step as a football player, and we'll be here to coach them until they reach that point.”
