Squadron have happy homecoming with 62-21 win over Generals

HIGHLAND HOME – Highland Home celebrated its homecoming with a 62-21 beating of Horseshoe Bend on Friday night at Clay Jordan Stadium.

The game was back and forth for much of the first half before the Flying Squadron's Deymond Sankey scored on a 7-yard touchdown run and gave his team some breathing room at halftime, 27-13.

Prior to Sankey's score the Generals had capped off a 12-play, 75-yard drive with a Mario Digs 2-yard touchdown run.

It was all Flying Squadron in the second half, as the host team scored five unanswered touchdowns. Sankey got things started, racing 54 yards up the middle of the Generals' defense with 7:18 left in the third quarter. A 4-yard touchdown run by Rico Harris followed on the Flying Squadron's ensuing possession.

In the fourth quarter, Highland Home scored three times in the final six minutes of play.

Issac McCall scored a touchdown from 6 yards out. That was a followed by a 30-yard touchdown sprint by Anthony Merriweather. Safety Josh Wasden then picked off a pass by Horseshoe Bend's Ryan Brown and took it 80-plus yards for a touchdown with 49 seconds remaining.

Horseshoe Bend ended the game with a touchdown as Brown hit Brandon Thomas across the middle for a 15-yard scoring pass. Timbo Slaughter hauled in the two-point conversion for Horseshoe Bend.

Glenn East notched the Generals first score of the game, a 41-yard touchdown run which tied the game up at 7-7 in the first quarter.

Highland Home's Jessie Webb then went 85 yards on the ensuing kickoff and Sankey added a 20-yard touchdown run later in the first half for the Flying Squadron.
