to Mountain Brook

LB's commitment

By Kevin Taylor

Dawn Higgenbotham has always been a bit superstitious. So when it her son Charlie began the dubious task of narrowing his college selection, she felt more at ease when she found out that her son and legendary coach Paul &#8220Bear” Bryant shared the same birthday.

That wasn't the sole reason why Higgenbotham committed in early spring to play for the Alabama Crimson Tide, but he said that it did factor into his choice.

Higgenbotham is the grandson of Greenville's Millie McDonald.

Higgenbotham missed most of his senior year at Mountain Brook High School after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his right knee on Sept. 20. He sat our the remainder of the season to rehab his knee. He is expected to beginning running in a couple weeks.

Higgenbotham generated attention following an all-star junior season. He led the team with 169 total tackles. He later played in the North-South All-Star game in Troy where he led the North in tackles with nine and a fumble recovery.

Higgenbotham chose Alabama over Vanderbilt.
