The season-opening jitters have subsided and now, the Greenville Tigers get a chance to settle into their schedule with their own tip-off tournament.

The Tigers (1-0) open the tournament against McKenzie, which will open its season against Greenville at 8 p.m. Friday.

The Tigers are coming off an impressive 83-52 victory over Central-Hayneville, which was a Class 3A finalist last season.

&#8220We had lost to them twice last season, but we came out to get this season off to a good start,” Greenville boys coach Victor Smith said. &#8220Our guys' confidence is pretty high right now and deservedly so.”

Escambia County and Red Level are on the opposite side of the bracket. The two teams will face each other at 5 p.m. Friday with the winner playing for the tip-off title at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The third-place game is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.

The girls side of the tip-off tournament is formatted as a round-robin. Greenville will face Red Level at 6:30 p.m. Friday and then face McKenzie at 1 p.m. Saturday. McKenzie and Red Level will play at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Like Central, Smith and the Tigers don't know what to prepare for when they face McKenzie Friday night.

&#8220It would be nice to have some information on them, but I'm more concerned with Greenville right now than I am any other team,” Smith said.

The Tigers will take a week off for the Thanksgiving holidays before returning to action at Emma Samson on Nov. 26. Greenville will return home after the Thanksgiving holidays on Nov. 29 to play host to Hillcrest-Evergreen.

Meanwhile the Greenville girls will be in Tuscaloosa Nov. 23-26 in the Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa tournament.
