After a two-week search Greenville High Principal Dr. Kathy Murphy is confident she has found the right person to make Greenville a state power in Class 5A once again.

Murphy said on Friday that she will make the recommendation during a special-called Butler County board of education meeting on Tuesday to hire Spain Park assistant coach Bryant Vincent as the Tigers new head football coach and athletic director.

The hiring of Vincent will mark the fourth head coach in the past six years at Greenville. Vincent takes over for interim coach Mike Williams, who accepted an assistant coaching position at the University of Tennessee-Martin two weeks ago.

Vincent, 30, was assistant head football coach and offensive coordinator at Spain Park for the past three seasons. Before that he was offensive coordinator at Charles Henderson High in Troy.

&#8220I'm excited about it,” Vincent said. &#8220I know how important football is to Greenville, and I feel like Greenville is a diamond in the rough. Š For the past four years the best football has been here in the Birmingham area in Class 5A and 6A, I want to bring that 5A title to Greenville.”

In the three years he's been at Spain Park, the Jaguars compiled a 21-13 record. Last season Spain Park finished 5-5 without the services of senior quarterback Neil Caudle, who committed to Auburn.

Caudle operated Vincent's spread offense, and now that spread is coming to Greenville.

&#8220Knowing the talent in Greenville, I plan on bringing the spread in Greenville to get more kids involved to bring more excitement to the team and the community,” he said.

Having worked with Vincent, Charles Henderson coach Hugh Fountain said that his former offensive coordinator is a perfect fit.

&#8220I think he'll do a great job,” Fountain said. &#8220We wish him success in every game but one.”

The special-called board of education meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday with an open reception to follow after the meeting so the public may get to meet Vincent. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
