GEORGIANA — McKenzie girls coach Cindy Lowe doesn't believe in holding anything back.

So after the Lady Tigers (19-7) clinched the Class 1A, Area 3 title last week, she didn't want her team to rest of its laurels with a full week of non-area matchups ahead.

The Lady Tigers took care of business on Tuesday by rolling to an easy 46-22 victory over Georgiana.

&#8220I told them just because we won the area, it doesn't mean that we don't have to practice to get better,” Lowe said earlier in the week when it was learned that McKenzie would play host to the girls area tournament. &#8220We can't get the big head over winning the area and then being able to host the tournament for the first time in school history. We are going to play like we are playing in area games.”

McKenzie jumped out to a 24-13 lead by the half and pulled away in the third period when the Lady Tigers outscored Georgiana 12-5 before setting for the win.

Carrena Davison was one of three McKenzie players to post double figures to lead the Lady Tigers to the win. Davison finished with a game-high 18 points, while LaSha Pitts and Amber Rudolph chipped in 11 points each.

Patrice Cheatham led Georgiana with 10 points.

McKenzie's girls kept its winning streak alive on Thursday by crushing Red Level, 45-24.

Rudolph led the Lady Tigers with 20 points, while Breanna Pate led Red Level with 12.

In boys action, McKenzie stayed within striking ranged of Georgiana for more than a quarter and a half, but the Panthers were just too strong on their home floor.

Georgiana's Kenny Peterson was unstoppable during the game finishing with a game and career-high 37 points, including seven 3-pointers in the Panthers' 89-62 victory.

The Panthers, who open Class 2A, Area 2 tournament action Feb. 10 against Red Level in Excel, jumped out to a 22-15 lead and expanded the lead to double digits by the half.

Georgiana continued to build a larger cushion after three quarters of action before settling for a 27-point win.

Brandon Kent was one of three McKenzie players to finish with double figures. Kent led the Tigers with 20 points, while Sattrick Rudolph added 16. Jerell Adams pitched in 13.

McKenzie dropped another non-area matchup Thursday when Red Level's Malcolm Lawson and D.J. Sankey scored 16 points each in Red Level's 95-49 win in McKenzie.

Adams led McKenzie with 13 points, while Kent had 10.
