Greenville Police arrested three people on various charges Thursday afternoon after police and ABC Agents raided a shot house at 153 W. Perdue St.

Generally shot houses resell typical types of alcohol like beer, wine and various liquors.

Officials did not expect to confiscate more than a gallon and a half of moonshine.

&#8220We certainly didn't expect that,” Greenville Police Lt. Randy Courtney said. &#8220I was kinda surprised they had that.”

Alberta Scarver, 50, who lived at the residence was arrested and charged with possession of untaxed liquor, selling alcoholic beverages without a license, possession of alcoholic beverages for sale and maintenance of an unlawful drinking establishment. All of the charges are misdemeanors.

&#8220We had been getting information for the past month that they had been selling alcohol out of the house, so we were able to get with the ABC Board agents and raid the house,” Courtney said.

Agents confiscated more than 12 cases of beer, various alcohols and moonshine.

Courtney said that shot houses are still common.

&#8220We've always had some. It's pretty common not just here in Greenville, but everywhere,” he said. &#8220It's against the law to sell without a license, and they are running a business without a city license. Eventually it can cause bigger problems where people may get drunk and get hurt.”

Those on the property who also were arrested were Daryl Smith, 36, on an outstanding warrant for driving a vehicle while suspended, and Samaria Robinson, 35, for possession of marijuana second-degree.

Smith and Robinson were released on bond on Thursday, while Scarver remains in the Butler County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
