Lady Eagles backhand Morgan

The Morgan Academy Senators tennis team posted their second win of the week with a shutout victory over Fort Dale Academy on Friday afternoon.

While the guys were victorious, the Lady Senators didn't fare so well, falling in all but two matches to the Lady Eagles.

For the guys, Drew Pomeroy lost the first set at the No. 1 position and then forced two more sets with Fort Dale's Andrew Jones before winning 6-3 and 6-2 to give Morgan their first win of the match. Rhett Rhyne continued his winning streak with a pair of victories over Stephen Butts, 6-0, 6-1.

Houston Searcy shutout Stimpson Crosby twice, 6-0, 6-0. Luke Jones, at the No. 4 singles slot, shutout Fort Dale's Kyle Green 6-0, 6-0 to win.

Kyle Brignac gave up a point, but won back to back sets, 6-1, 6-1 against David Foshee.

Luke Jones beat Alex Medley 8-0 to remain unbeaten on the season.

Ellis Talton, Reese Armstrong and Andrew Slagel all notched wins to preserve the shutout.

In doubles action, Pomeroy and Searcy teamed up to take care of Jones and Butts, 8-4. Rhyne and Cain Sommerville beat the duo of Crosby and Greer 8-1.

For the Lady Senators the results were directly opposite.

Amy McGuckin, Carrie Glover, Rachael Sherrer, Laura Talton and Jamie Pilcher all lost in straight sets.

McGuckin fell to Janie Mullins 6-0, 6-1, Glover was beaten by Whitney Jacks, 6-2, 6-3, Sherrer came up short against Kayla Butts, 6-1, 6-0. Talton dropped her match to Elizabeth Dunklin, 6-1, 6-2 and Pilcher fell to Renee Scott 6-2, 6-1.

The Lady Senators, did however have a pair of bright spots.

Shelby Utsey knocked off Anna Beth Henry 8-5 and then Alison Peake shutout Jennie Crenshaw, 8-0.

In doubles action, McGucken and Glover fell to Mullins and Jacks 8-2. In No. 2 doubles, Sherrer and Talton were shutout by Butts and Dunklin 8-0.
