Fort Dale snapped its four-game losing skid Friday to open area play by topping Hooper Academy before earning a split in a baseball classic at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery.

The Eagles (3-5) fell to Morgan Academy 17-1 and then bounced back to edge Lowndes Academy, 6-4.

The Eagles played host to Morgan on Tuesday, but results were not available by presstime.

Fort Dale, which won its area last season, opened area play with a 7-5 victory in Hope Hull over the Colts.

Typically the Eagles have been winning with hitting and defense, and Friday the balls were flying out of Hooper's ballpark.

Casey Weston, Brady Newton and Blake Mullins each had solo bombs to lead the Eagles.

Mullins, who was 1-for-3 on the day, led off the game with a shot to left before Newton, who was 2-for-2, sent another Colts' pitch over the left-centerfield fence two outs later to give Fort Dale a 2-0 lead.

Hooper countered with three runs in the second to take the lead from the Eagles, but Fort Dale regained its lead in the third thanks to a four-run frame.

Weston, who was 1-for-4, then put the icing on the win for the Eagles in the fourth inning with a solo shot to left.

Andrew Phelps led the Eagles at the plate going 3-for-4 with a RBI.

Weston improved to 2-1 on the season on the mound by pitching a five-hit complete game. He gave up three earned runs and four walks, but struck out 10.

Morgan Academy (11-3) then evened Fort Dale's area record by pounding the Eagles, 17-1.

Fort Dale managed its only run in the fourth inning after Adam Vickery drove Newton home following his double.

Newton started the game on the mound for the Eagles and lasted four innings. Newton gave up 10 earned runs and 10 hits, six walks and struck out four.

Fort Dale got back on the winning track Saturday afternoon by holding off Lowndes.

Blake Mullins evened his record to 1-1 on the mound after four innings of work. He allowed just two hits and one earned run while not walking a single Rebel batter. He also struck out four.

Lowndes jumped out to 2-0 lead before the Eagles plated a single run. Trailing 3-1 in the fifth, Fort Dale took the lead for good when pitch-hitter cracked a bases-clearing double.

Newton led the Eagles at the plate going 3-for-4 with a double and a RBI. Mullins was 2-for-4, while Vickery was 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI.

Fort Dale returns to action Thursday at Sparta Academy.
