Greenville's three-day Florida road trip got off to a bumpy start on Monday after the Tigers dropped an 11-1 decision to Holmes County, Fla.

Holmes County jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening inning and chased Greenville starting pitcher Lynn Lewis before the Tigers could even scratch the scoreboard.

&#8220We didn't play bad, we just walked too many in the first and second inning,” Greenville coach Bobby Hughes said.

Greenville (8-5) scored its only run of the day in the first inning on a RBI single by Josh Longmire to score Lewis.

The Tiger hitters were handcuffed most of the evening, scattering just four hits. David Stephenson, Allen Little, Longmire and Lewis accounted for Greenville's hits.

Holmes County tacked on two more runs in the second, a run in the third and fourth inning and put the finishing touches on its win with three more runs in the sixth.

&#8220I know what we need to work on, but we need some experience,” Hughes said. &#8220The only way to get better is to play better teams.”

Before this week's Florida swing during the school's spring break, Greenville picked up its fifth win in six outings Friday night by crushing Hillcrest-Evergreen 14-4 in five innings at Beeland Park.

Little improved to 2-1 on the season by pitching a three-hit game. Little didn't allow

walk and struck out four.

Lewis belted two doubles with two RBI, scored three runs and stole four bases to lead the Tigers' 13-hit effort.

Zac Woodfin had three hits, including a double and two RBI, while Marcus Mickles had two hits, including a triple and a stolen base.

Greenville, once again, could not get any offense going early and trailed Hillcrest 2-0 going into the third inning.

The Tigers then scored eight runs in the frame and never trailed again.
