Greenville dropped to 0-2 in the region Friday night when it dropped a 9-0 decision to Charles Henderson, but you would not have known it.

The Tigers bounced back from the embarrassing loss to the Trojans to earn a split in the doubleheader with a 6-2 victory. Although the win didn't count in the region standings, it was a win that first-year head coach Bobby Hughes was looking for.

&#8220This may be the win that gets us going,” Hughes said after the twinbill at Beeland Park.

Starting pitcher Parker Winters worked the complete seven innings in Game 2, giving up just four hits, including a solo home run in the fifth inning.

In typical Greenville style, the Tigers offense didn't get rolling until the third inning when it scored five runs.

Greenville scored the runs on five straight hits to take a commanding lead. The Tigers then tacked on one more run in the fifth and held Charles Henderson at bay.

&#8220With Troy being our rivalry game, we knew that we just had to suck it up after losing 9-0 in the first game, put it to the side and come back and win the second,” said junior shortstop Lynn Lewis. &#8220This win lets us know that we can play with anyone.

&#8220This game may be a turning point for our team. It could be the start of something special.”

Greenville was able to put the bat on the ball and scatter eight hits in Game 1, but could not overcome six errors in the game.

Charles Henderson jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning and then put the game away in the third by plating six runs. Four of the six runs scored with two out.

&#8220We just couldn't overcome the errors,” Hughes said. &#8220You can't commit that many errors in a game and expect to win.”

Allen Little and Lewis had two hits each to lead the Tigers.
