Those who want to support some of the county's finest high school scholar-athletes are encouraged to get their tickets for next week's Achiever Awards.

The banquet is slated for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, at the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church in Greenville.

Mike Turk, head football coach at Huntingdon College, will be the keynote speaker for the evening.

High school seniors, nominated by their schools from across the county, will be honored that night, with one young man and one young woman selected as Butler County's Achiever Award winner for 2006.

The award is patterned after the Hitchcock Award in Montgomery. High academic standards, strong community and church involvement and participation in school sports are all part of the students' evaluation. Tickets are $12 each and can be purchased at the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce offices.
