TROY – The Charles Henderson High School Lady Trojans pounded out seven hits en route to an 11-3 win over area-rival Greenville High School on Tuesday at the Troy Sportsplex.

Charles Henderson catcher Hannah Spann led the charge offensively for the Lady Trojans with a pair of singles and a RBI. Pitcher Kasee Carter, third baseman Brittany Knotts, right fielder Denise Cain and shortstop Taylor Smartt each collected a single and a RBI. Center fielder Eden Stamey drove in one run.

&#8220We hit the ball better today than we have been,” Charles Henderson High School head coach Steve Haug said. &#8220We struggled some because she was throwing the ball so far out that we couldn't get the bat on the ball. I finally had the girls move up on the plate to try and get them close enough to get a hit, but we still had trouble reaching it. When she did throw it across the plate we did a pretty good job of hitting the ball. We got what we needed anyway.”

The Lady Trojans also got some help from the Lady Tigers.

Greenville committed six errors that led to three Charles Henderson runs. The Lady Tigers also had five passed balls that allowed the Lady Trojans to plate three runs.

&#8220We did a good job today of capitalizing on their mistakes,” Haug said. &#8220We did a real good job of running the bases and making sure we got on base and put pressure on their defense. I was proud of the effort today. We got down early, but we kept battling. As a coach, that's what you want to see.”

Carter earned the win for Charles Henderson after tossing 3.2 innings in relief of Knotts. The right-hander struck out four batters and allowed just one hit.

Brittany White suffered the loss for Greenville. White allowed six hits, while striking out two Lady Trojans.

Greenville jumped out to an early lead by plating two runs in the top of the first. Mikki Harris started the rally with a two-out single and later scored on a double to center field by Kendra Mitchell to take a 1-0 lead. On the ensuing at bat Kairee Newton plated Mitchell with a single to extend the lead to 2-0.

The Lady Tigers added to their lead in the top of the second by pushing a single run across the plate on the strength of an RBI single by Harris that scored White, who had reached base on a fielding error by the Lady Trojans.

Charles Henderson stormed back in the second inning to knot the game at three runs apiece. The rally was sparked by a pair of singles by Cain and Carter. The Lady Trojans also capitalized on four walks and a pair of passed balls to tie the game.

The Lady Trojans took the lead for the first time in the third inning when Cain plated Ashton Ingram with a ground ball to the right side to give CHHS a 4-3 lead.
