Come May 29, an all-American salute to military men and women, past and present, will arrive in Greenville’s Confederate Park.

The Greenville Lions Club is bringing its second annual Memorial Day Celebration to the park on that holiday Monday. Festivities kick off at 10 a.m. and run until 2 p.m.

&uot;We have a great day planned in the park. There will be lots of activities for all ages to enjoy, and of course, a special tribute to all who have served our nation’s armed forces,&uot; Lion Herbert Morton, one of the event’s organizers, said.

At noon, a patriotic ceremony is slated, with special emphasis on area veterans of the Korean War. Former Montgomery mayor, Emory Folmar, a decorated Korean War veteran, will serve as keynote speaker for the day.

A Veterans’ &uot;Walk of Honor&uot; is also planned, Morton said.

Children’s activities, patriotic and live ‘down home’ music by local talents and a flyover of vintage aircraft are all on tap.

Plenty of refreshments, including hot dogs and burgers, will be on hand to enjoy, courtesy of Greenville Wal-Mart Super Center and other local vendors.

&uot;We appreciate everyone’s help in making this a wonderful patriotic event for our community. We had a very successful event last year and we look forward to an even bigger, better celebration this year in Confederate Park.

&#8220So, plan to come and join us on May 29 and bring a friend…bring a veteran,&uot; Morton said.
