n DHR Board Meeting

n McLain Reunion

The McLain family reunion will be held at the Walnut St. Church of Christ Fellowship Hall behind People's Bank in downtown Greenville. Please bring a basket lunch. Starting time is at 9 a.m.

n May Fest

The Burkeville May Fest will be held on May 20 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Highway 21 North. Booths will be available for $20 with tables for $25. All money must be paid no later than May 19. n Mt. Olive East Celebration

Mount Olive East Baptist Church, located on McKenzie Grade Rd. and New Prospect Rd., will celebrate 150 years with homecoming on May 21. The program begins at 11 a.m., followed by dinner on the ground and singing in the afternoon. Please bring pictures of members, former members and their families. The Central Alabama Construction Safety Conference will be held on Thursday, May 25 at Auburn University Montgomery in the Taylor Center from 7:30 - 4:30.

Free safety & health training will be provided for persons in the construction industry.

The 2006 Summer Royalty Pageant is scheduled for 2 p.m., May 27, 2006 at the Ga-Ana Theatre.

n Veterans' Ceremony

The Greenville Lions Club will honor all veterans from Butler County from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, May 29, 2006, at Confederate Park in

Greenville. There will be a Veterans' Walk of Honor, as well as music, a vintage aircraft fly over, children's activities, refreshments, and a patriotic ceremony at noon. Bring a friend and bring a veteran.

n Scholarship Applications

Whitney National Bank, trustee of the Elizabeth D. Leckie Scholarship fund, announces applications can now be submitted. All new applicants and those reviewing their applications should see Melba H. n Georgiana HS Reunion

The annual Georgiana High School Reunion-classes 1960-1969 will be held at the Georgiana Community House on June 3, from 1:30p.m. – 3:30p.m.

Light refreshments will be provided at no charge, however, donations will be accepted.

Class pictures will be taken at 2:30 p.m.

There will be no formal program, just &#8220come and go” and visit with old friends.

n Moore Academy Reunion

Moore Academy Alumni, former teachers, students and friends, will hold its annual reunion on Saturday, May 10 at the Moore Academy School in Pine Apple. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the historical main building where refreshments will be served. You are invited to visit the memorabilia room, as well as the veteran's collection room. The program will start at 11 a.m. in the gym, followed by a catered lunch. Lunch plates will be $10, no refunds. n Cemetery Association Meeting

A meeting of the Concord Cemetery Memorial Association is set for Saturday, August 26, at 10:30 a.m. at Tabernacle Church. All interested persons are cordially invited to attend and bring a picnic lunch.

After lunch, everyone is invited to tour the cemetery and help in clean-up work. Wear suitable clothing and walking shoes.

Tabernacle Church is located on the Old Federal Road and can be reached from Interstate 65 via the Tyson Exit (drive over the freeway and head East if coming southbound), go down Cloverfield Road (SH 24), turn right on the Old Federal Road and in about two miles, you’ll see Tabernacle Church on the right.

n Kindergarten Registration

Mt. Moriah Baptist Church #2 Christian Academy is taking applications for 4-year-old children for our kindergarten program and school readiness program. Children's birth dates will have to be on or before Sept. 1. This is a free program. For more information, please call 563-7062.

n County Commission

The meeting time for the Butler County Commission's regularly scheduled second-Monday meetings has been changed from 10 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Workshops for each regularly scheduled meeting will still be held on the prior Thursday at 6 p.m.

n Athletic Club Meeting

The public is invited to participate at scheduled Greenville High Athletic Club meetings at 6 p.m. every other Monday in the high school cafeteria. The public is encouraged to attend and share ideas toward building a championship-level athletic department.

n 21st Century Afterschool Program

The Butler County Board of Education will be offering a 21st Century Afterschool Program for K-8th grade students Monday-Friday until 5 p.m. at W.O. Parmer, Greenville Elementary, and at the Education and Community Center for Greenville Middle School students.

Certified teachers assist with homework and offer learning activities which are fun and educational. Tuition is $25 per month. Registration forms are available at each of the sites.

n School Readiness
