When it comes to moving, I#039;d rather be beat

Moving from one town to another, or just from one residence to another, has to be one of the least favorite things on anybody's to-do list.

This past weekend, I got to relive this wonderful experience once again as I moved to Luverne.

Boxes and boxes and more boxes. Just what are in these boxes anyway? Oh, wait. My senior prom picture just fell out of that box. Yikes. My prom date, who is a very close friend of mine even to this day, now has gray hair. He has that premature gray, don't you know. Now, as for me, why, I still have that BROWN hair I had back thenŠ.just don't ask.

And the clothes. I still have clothes that I know are now back in style because they were once in style a couple of decades ago. So, that means I don't have to go shopping for a long time, right? Well, finally. One good thing came out of all this.

And besides that, I can now fit back into a lot of those clothes. You know how it is, ladies. You gain weight; you lose weight. You don't want to throw out your skinny clothes because you just know you're going to get back into them one day again. Some day. Any day. MaybeŠ

What is it about our STUFF that we can't let go of? Do I really need those 45 RPM records of Electric Light Orchestra and Billy Squire and The Gap Band? You betcha. I'm not getting rid of them. I have a stereo system that allows me to play all of my records. My nephew, Jim Grayson, who is 14, took one look at them and said, &#8220What is that?” Ah, the joys of growing older.

And then, of course, is the fun of living out of those boxes for a while because you don't have time to put everything in its place just yet. You don't even know what's in most of those boxes. Heck, I'm scared to open a couple of them.

So, now, I'm in that in-between stage of knowing just where the essentials are and trying to work around the rest. For those of you, like my mother, who has lived in her home since my dad built it for them in 1948 when they married, you are truly missing out on one of life's greatest trials and tribulations. Because if moving doesn't try your patience and your sanity, I don't know what will.

As for Samson, my 21-pound tomcat, he is taking all of this moving business in stride. He actually likes sticking his head in this box and that box just to see what might be moving around. He's already found himself the best window seat in the house right at the front door.

By the way, I was one of the Greenville residents who went to New York last summer and appeared on the reality TV show &#8220My Kind of Town,” and I won a scooter. So, when you see me riding around Luverne on my blue scooter, please don't run over me. And watch out for Samson's little sidecar. We had a time finding a helmet to fit him.
