Joy Elizabeth Barganier and Marcus Cale Smith were united in marriage on August 6, 2005 at 5:30 p.m. at the home of the bride in Greenville.

The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Brooks Columbus Barganier III of Fort Deposit and the late Brooks Columbus Barganier III. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Kenneth Cumbie and Wilma Taylor Babbitt of Greenville.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Claude Smith Jr. of Morehead City, North Carolina. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Thomas Cale of Tarboro, North Carolina and the late Dorothy McRainey Smith of Tarboro.

The bride was escorted and given in marriage by her brother, Matthew Calloway Barganier, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Reverend Dennis Carlson of Montgomery and Reverend Joe Lisenby of Greenville officiated the double ring ceremony.

The bride wore a floor-length ivory shantung dress with a v-neckline and an A-line skirt. The empire waist was edged in a double row of pearls. In her hair she wore a tiny tiara of ivory porcelain calla lilies and Asian lilies with pearl stamens. She wore pearl and diamond drop earrings, a gift from the groom, and a gold cross worn by the bride's mother at her own wedding.

The bride's bouquet was of ivory roses, hand-tied with wide ivory double-faced ribbon, and the groom's boutonniere was made from a rose plucked from her bouquet.

The bridesmaids wore street-length, sleeveless princess-line dresses of burnt orange shantung with v-necklines both front and back. The dresses were accented with ivory sashes, and each maid wore a necklace and earrings designed and made by bridesmaid Oana Cimpean. They carried hand-tied bouquets of yellow freesia, burnt orange roses, peach roses, green berries, variegated pittisporum and chartreuse mini calla lilies, wrapped in antique handkerchiefs, gifts from the bride.

The mother of the bride wore an embroidered chartreuse silk A-line dress with an empire waist and a v-neck. The mother of the groom wore an ice blue silk crepe dress featuring princess lines.

Maid of honor was Mary Catherine Barganier, sister of the bride, of Pensacola. Her bridesmaids were Anne Cumbie Barganier, sister of the bride, of Fort Deposit; Sarah Harper Baggett of Birmingham; Abbie Gardner Ballew, cousin of the bride, of Greenville; Allison Hannah Price of Birmingham; Oana Carmina Cimpean of Baton Rouge; Haydn Lorraine Krudop of Birmingham and Jennifer Wilbeck Newby of Cullman.

The grooms' father, Marcus Claude Smith Jr., served as his best man. His groomsmen were Matthew Calloway Barganier, brother of the bride, of Baton Rouge; James Thomas Watson, of Panama City; John Bailey Duncan III, of Rome, Ga.; William Ernest Fason of Birmingham; David Lucas Knight of Birmingham; Brad McQueen Murfee of Starkville, Miss. and James Benson Roberts of Atlanta.

Music was performed by violinists Diane Carlson and Keri Brown, both of Montgomery, and Anne Cumbie Barganier, sister of the bride, of Fort Deposit. The wedding ceremony was directed by Teresa Cascio of Greenville.

A reception was held immediately following the ceremony at the home of the bride. Guests enjoyed Motown music performed by the band &#8220Full House” and hors d'oeuvres provided by Becky Manning of Chapman. Judge MacDonald Russell of Greenville served as wedding photographer.

The bride received a Bachelor of Arts from Auburn University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law. The groom received a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Auburn University and is employed by Lowe & Associates in Birmingham.

Following a wedding trip to Riveria Maya, Mexico, the couple resides in Homewood.
