Morrison throws one-hitter in All-Star win

The Dixie Belles Softball Sub-District Tournament being held at the Greenville Softball Complex got underway Thursday with Luverne and Greenville both emerging victorious with lopsided victories.

The tournament began with the 6 p.m. game between Luverne and Elba and concluded with the 8 p.m. game between Greenville and Troy.

Greenville 15, Troy 1

The Greenville All-Stars' game against Troy Thursday night was delayed in the fourth inning for about an hour due to rain, but that didn't seem to slow them down as Greenville scattered six hits in the 15-1 opening-round victory.

Greenville got the scoring started early, scoring four runs in the first inning, and never looked back.

Although the game was stopped due to rain and lightning in the top of the fourth inning with Greenville batting, the Greenville All-Stars were already ahead 12-1 and added three more runs for insurance once the game resumed.

Conner Murphy, Murphy Middleton, Anna Nelson, Shawnee Morrsion, Marvia Scott and Tamara Truitt each had a single for the winning team.

Murphy, Middleton and Katie Wilson each scored two runs apiece for Greenville while Erin Taylor, Nelson, Morrison, Cortnee Meyers, Abby Martin, Scott, Lori Fails, Truitt and Anne Blake Langford each scored a run.

The Greenville All-Stars were also fast on the base paths, with Langford stealing three bases and Truitt stealing two.

For Troy, Shatae Martin had the lone hit in the third inning while Allison Holland scored the only run in the first.

Morrison earned the one-hit win over Troy and recorded 10 strikeouts.

Luverne 13, Elba 1

Luverne got off to a hot start early and never looked back, scoring four runs in the first inning.

Taylor Wright was the leading hitter for the Luverne All-Stars, scattering two hits, while also driving in four runs and scoring one.

Candice Dunn and Stimbile Lee both had a double and scored a pair of runs for Luverne, while RaSheeda May, Nicki Bailey, DeAnza Sheridan and Courtney Wolfe each had a single and scored a run.

Courtney Strops also had a hit for the winning team.

For Elba, Hayden Goodson scored the lone run off of Heather Hines' sacrifice bunt.

The Luverne All-Stars threw a no-hitter in the first-round win.
