CCA downs Dixie Rebels, 14-6

Dixie Academy rode into Luverne Friday night in hopes of derailing the Crenshaw Christian Cougars but came out on the short end of a 14-6 score.

&uot;Our guys played pretty good but the main thing is they did what was needed to win,&uot; Cougars' head coach Ronald Jones said.

The Cougars depended on the legs of Jake Page and Derek Manning to ease by the Rebels with Page leading the way with 167 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries, while Manning added 91 yards on 18 rushes.

Quarterback Bryan Brasington completed 3-of-9 passes for 44 yards and one touchdown, while Allen Sasser snared two of them and Jason Touchtone the other. One of Sasser’s went for a 29-yard touchdown.

Matthew Walden was a perfect 2-of-2 on the night in extra points.

Heading up the defense for Crenshaw Christian was Walden with 12 tackles while Page added six. Justin Penny, Manning, Chafin Johnson, Jared Hughes and Charlie Mack each contributed five stops in the effort.

&uot;Our defense really stood up and came through as 14 players had stops for our team,&uot; Jones said.

This week, the Cougars celebrate homecoming as they host Ashford Academy in another region battle. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
