On the desk of McKenzie head coach Miles Brown sits a football with &#8220MHS 0 - PHHS 33, Sept. 15, 2006” written on it.

Brown said he keeps the ball on his desk as a reminder of how his team got complacent following the Tigers' first win of the season against Kinston and then got shut out at Pleasant Home.

The Tigers have failed to win back-to-back games since 2002 and Brown said it is his job to keep reminding his team that they have a long way to go going into this week's homecoming game.

&#8220I keep asking them, ‘How many homecoming games have you won?'” Brown said.

Although the Tigers have only one senior on the team, no senior, junior, sophomore or freshman has ever won a homecoming game at McKenzie and Brown said the team must play a whole game, not just three quarters, to win this year.

&#8220We played about three quarters of football,” Brown said of Friday's game. &#8220We never punched it in like we should have.”

This week's opponent, Class 2A Goshen, is coming off a 39-15 loss to Loachapoka but Brown said the Eagles have a lot of athletes.

Although the Eagles present a challenge for the Tigers, Brown said the main focus this week has been on McKenzie.

&#8220We've worked on us and tried to make us better,” Brown said.

Kickoff Friday night is 7 p.m.
