Along with a winning football season thus far, Luverne High School has something else of which to be proud.

On Sept. 8, LHS Principal Earl Franks, along with a host of supporters, officially rededicated the recently renovated Glenn Daniel Stadium.

Some of these supporters and contributors included former Head Coach Glenn Daniel, Sen. Wendell Mitchell, and Luverne Mayor and former superintendent Joe Rex Sport.

&#8220We are extremely excited and proud to have these renovations to complement our tradition-rich football program,” Franks said. &#8220We sincerely appreciate the contributions and donations made by the many individuals, businesses and organizations that have helped to make these renovations possible.”

No major work had been done to the football stadium area since 1973, according to LHS Assistant Principal Doug Brown.

&#8220All of the stadium and seating areas, on the home side and the visitors' side, were changed from that block facade to all brick,” he said.

In the back of the stadium, there was an open area that has now been bricked up three feet high, with extended metal panels coming down and rolling doors added, in order to create four new closed storage areas.

&#8220We also had the drainage redone on the field,” Brown added.

The restrooms on the visitors' side have all new plumbing, a new ceiling and new lighting.

Glenn Daniel Stadium also boasts new black, vinyl-coated fencing which completely surrounds the stadium, as well as having the new fencing around the bleachers.

There are also new sidewalks on the home side of the field.

&#8220We've made the bathrooms handicap accessible,” Brown said. &#8220And, there is a new area designed with handicap facilities on the home side of the stadium.”

&#8220We could not have done all of this without the support and funding of Superintendent Kathi Wallace and the Crenshaw County Board of Education, in addition to private donations,” he added. &#8220We had so many people and businesses and organizations to help with this project, and we hope they realize just what this means to LHS.”
