Ronnie Hudson of the Bullock Community was recently appointed as the Resident Director for Crenshaw County on the Board of Directors of the Choctawhatchee, Pea and Yellow Rivers Watershed Management Authority.

&#8220I'm honored to serve on this board,” Hudson said after he was administered the Oath of Office by Crenshaw County Probate Judge Jim Perdue Tuesday morning at the Crenshaw County Courthouse.

Hudson also serves as Crenshaw County commissioner for District Four.

He previously served the unexpired term of Elias Bryan who resigned from the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is appointed by the Board of Supervisors of the Soil and Water Conservation Districts.

&#8220This organization represents clean water and a clean environment for the people,” Hudson said. &#8220They select someone who is very interested and concerned about water quality and other environmental issues that are important to our residents. That is why this is such an honor for me.”

The Choctawhatchee, Pea and Yellow Rivers Watershed Management Authority was established by the Alabama Legislature in 1991 and is the only watershed management authority which is a state agency. The agency is responsible for managing and developing the resources of the Choctawhatchee, Pea and Yellow rivers' basin in the areas of water quality, water quantity, flood control and water conservation education.

The Watershed Management Authority is a non-regulatory agency with offices located in Troy.

The river basin includes 2.3 million acres in southeast Alabama and includes all or portions of the counties of Barbour, Bullock, Coffee, Covington, Crenshaw, Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston and Pike. A 16-member Board of Directors selected from the 10 southeastern counties governs the work of the Watershed Management Authority.
