Cougars trounce Falcons in Homecoming win, 54-24

The Ashford Academy Falcons came flying low into the Cougar Den on Friday night and about three hours later, flew out even lower after a 54-24 trouncing at the hands of the Cougars.

Celebrating

homecoming in a big way, Crenshaw Christian Academy jumped out to an early 21-0 advantage in the first period and by halftime, had built it to 34-17. The score remained the same until the fourth quarter, when they tacked on three more TD’s to earn a resounding victory.

Bryan Brasington led the aerial attack, connecting on 6 of 14 passes for 98 yards, three of them going to fellow senior Allen Sasser. The Cougar running game was headed up by Derek Manning with 13 carries for 158 yards and 3 TD’s, while Jake Page added 141 yards and 4 tallies on 18 carries. Weston Byrd contributed 14 yards and 1 touchdown on 2 carries. In the extra point department, Matthew Walden had 4, while Michael Jackson added 2.

Defensively, Manning led the way with 13 stops while Jarrod Pettie had 10 tackles including 2 sacks. Page also had 10 stops and 1 interception, as Jason Tutchtone added 8 stops, 1 interception and 1 fumble recovery. Also contributing to the cause were Jared Hughes and Walden with 7 tackles each. Sasser threw in a pickoff and a recovery.

Coach Roland Jones said, &uot;All of our guys contributed tonight. It was a super homecoming win, and I’m really proud of our whole team.&uot;

This week the Cougars cross the state line to play Arnold High School in Florida. Game time is 7 p.m.
