Fort Dale Academy downs fourth Top 10 team of the season

For the fourth time this season, the No. 6 Fort Dale Academy Eagles defeated a Top 10 team, downing the No. 9 Glenwood Gators, 20-15.

Trailing 15-12 with just over five minutes to go in the game, the Eagles drove 8o yards in 13 plays with Blake Mullins capping the drive with a one-yard touchdown run. Quarterback Ty Newton added the two-point conversion to seal the win for the Eagles.

Fort Dale got off to a sluggish start Friday, fumbling on the opening drive and then taking a saftey in the first quarter.

The Eagle defense allowed a the Gators to add a 12-yard touchdown pass before the half to go in down 12-0.

To open the second half, the Eaglesa drove 50 yards in 11 plays and capped the drive with Mika Jones scoring from one yard out.

On the ensuing kickoff, the Eagles pooched the kick and Blake Mullins recovered the ball.

Mullins then added an 11-yard run for the score to give the Eagles a 12-9 advantage.

Glenwood answered the Fort Dale score with a 13-yard touchdown run, but the Eagles would not quit and tacked on the winning score with just a minute remaining in the game.

Offensively for the Eagles, Mullins was the leading rusher with 19 carries for 115 yards. Newton was 5-of-10 passing for 62 yards and receiver Adam Vickery had two catches for 38 yards, including a crucial 36-yard catch on the game's final drive.

Barry Boan was the leading tackler with 11.

The Eagles return to action Friday night as they play host to Morgan Academy. Kickoff is scheudled for 7:30 p.m.
