Although it wasn't pretty, the Greenville Tigers escaped from Tallassee with a 28-27 win Friday night, which puts the Tigers into the playoffs for the first time since 2003.

The Tallassee Tigers put up a huge fight but fell just short of victory after a two-point conversion attempt failed at the end of the game when Tallassee elected to go for two instead of sending the game into overtime.

&#8220I think they knew they couldn't stop us, but at the same time I don't think we could have stopped them,” Greenville head coach Bryant Vincent said.

Although Vincent said his defense struggled, he credited the play of Tallassee quarterback Demond Washington and running back James Henderson.

&#8220Number three and number one were as good as advertised,” Vincent said of the Tallassee quarterback-running back tandem. &#8220We just didn't have the intensity we've had on defense and we missed way too many tackles.”

For the Greenville offense, quarterback Casey Weston had a stellar night, racking up 225 total yards and 22 points.

&#8220Casey Weston played like an All-American tonight,” Vincent said.

Weston finished 7-of-11 for 105 yards and one touchdown through the air and rushed 21 times for 120 yards and two touchdowns while hitting all four extra points.

On the ground for the Tigers, Brandon Cheatham was the leading rusher with 15 carries for 119 yards.

Lynn Lewis was the leading receiver with four catches for 62 yards and Akeva Owens had a touchdown reception on a fourth and four play from the nine-yard line.

&#8220We never gave up, we never quit,” Vincent said.

The Tigers return to action Friday night at Carroll in Ozark. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
