The Georgiana Panthers fell 28-25 in a heartbreaking loss to the Flomaton Hurricanes in a crucial region game.

With the loss, the Panthers dropped to 2-5 on the season and fell to 2-3 in region play.

The game featured six heart stopping lead changes as well as crucial turnovers.

&#8220This was a great game between two teams that wanted to win badly,” Georgiana Head Coach Donald Ray Mixon, Jr. said.

&#8220I thought whoever had the ball last would probably win tonight.”

As it turned out, that happened as the Hurricanes ran the last 4:50 off the clock for the region win.

Beforehand, the Panthers had the ball at the Flomaton 18-yard line and were poised to take the lead in the final minutes but junior Ronald Scott fumbled the ball.

Scott led the Panthers with 107 yards on just 12 carries.

The Panthers scored their first two touchdowns off turnover recoveries.

However, the Panthers also had a previous missed opportunity to take the lead as junior quarterback Andre Paige threw an interception in the end zone with 11 minutes remaining in the game.

Paige completed eight of 20 passes for 186 yards including two touchdowns.

The Panthers had a total of 350 yards on offense including 164 rushing yards while the Georgiana defense held Flomaton to 254 total yards.

Panther's junior Zebbie Mitchell caught four passes for a game 153 high yards.

Mitchell opened the game by catching a 37 yard TD pass from Paige with 7:17 left in the first quarter.

Mitchell also caught a 20 yard TD pass in the third quarter for the Panthers final lead of the game.

&#8220We had some good plays tonight on offense,” Mixon said. &#8220However, we couldn't get the ball soon enough because Flomaton had some time consuming drives.”

Flomaton running back Tony Ellis played a big part in Flomaton's time consuming drives as he rushes for 128 yards on an astounding 28 carries.

Ellis scored Flomaton's first three touchdowns including runs of 35, 1 and 20 yards.

The last score put the Hurricanes up by the score of 21-19 with 1:51 left in the first half.

The Panthers previously scored two touchdowns via Ronald Scott.

Scott put the Panthers ahead on two different occasions with TD runs of 32 and 8 yards in the first half.

In the second half, points came at a premium as each team traded a TD apiece after both teams put up a combined 40 points in the first half.

&#8220I thought our defense played well, especially in the second half,” Mixon said.

Scott led all tacklers with nine takedowns as Cornelius McMeans had six tackles including a 40-yard interception return in the second half.

Donald Scott and Adones Peterson each had a fumble recovery.

Georgiana looks to rebound as they host Keith Friday at 7 p.m.

&#8220We still got a chance to make the playoffs,” Mixon said, &#8220but we've got to win the next two region games.”
