The Crenshaw Christian Academy Cougars stormed into Abbeville Thursday night, took care of business, then headed back to Luverne with a 36-6 victory, securing a host position in the first round of the state AISA playoffs. It’s yet to be determined who their opponent will be.

This past week though, the Cougars looked every bit a championship team as they thoroughly whipped ACA, leading 17-6 at the half and extending it to the final score by winning the second half 19-0.

&uot;We have some momentum now, and we just have to continue to work hard, hopefully pick up a win Friday night, and put ourselves in a position to be ready for the playoffs,&uot; said Coach Roland Jones.

Once again leading the offensive attack Thursday night was Bryan Brasington, completing 8 of 18 attempts for 143 yards and two touchdowns. His favorite target was Allen Sasser who caught five for 82 yards and both scores. Leading the rushing onslaught was Jake Page with 17 carries for 121 yards and a pair of TD’s. Derek Manning added 32 yards and Brasington ran for one tally. Matthew Walden booted a 24-yard field goal and added two PAT’s to round out the scoring.

On the defensive side of the ball, Walden paved the way with seven stops, while Weston Byrd added six, Charlie Mack and Page five each and Zach Ballard and James Lester four apiece. The stop unit also recovered four fumbles, one each by Ballard, Page, Manning and Chafin Johnson.

This Friday night, CCA hosts Coosa Valley of Harpersville to complete their regular season. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
