The Butler County Board of Education will conduct its next regular meeting on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. at McKenzie High School in McKenzie. The meeting will be held in the school auditorium. The public is encouraged to attend.

It's Super Fire Safety Saturday at the Greenville-Butler County Public Library at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21. Ages 3 to 3rd grade are invited to come and meet the Greenville firemen!

n Giant Garage Sale in Troy

Troy Parks & Recreation will host the largest garage sale Troy and Pike County has ever had. Over 100 booths will be available from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006 at the City of Troy Community Recreation Center. n Elks Meeting

The Elks of America are holding a planning meeting Oct. 25 at the Greenville Shoney's at 7 p.m. The Elks have community-targeted programs to help youth with scholarships, sports sponsorships, anti drug education and scouting. We also provide community assistance with Veterans programs and helping the less fortunate with food baskets. We also provide a Youth Camp on Lake Martin near Tallassee for weekend camping. Old Time Farm Day returns to Butler County Saturday, Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Halso Mill Road. Vintage tractors and equipment, demonstrations of blacksmithing, butter churning, quilting, mule plowing, syrup making and much, much more, along with cake walks, kids' races, face painting and live music by Southern Comfort Blue Grass Band. n Georgiana Class of ‘53 Reunion

The Georgiana High School Class of 1953 will meet Sat., Oct. 28 at the Senior Nutrition Center located on Palmer Ave.in Georgiana. n G'ana FUMC to honor veterans

The Georgiana First United Methodist Church will be having a special patriotic service at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 29. WW II veterans who are members of either FUMC or Oak Grove Methodist will be honored. The church extends a cordial invitation to all local churches, WW II vets and their families who are in the Georgiana and Friendship area. Special music will be provided by Aaron Ledbetter and Frances Garner. Names of those honored will be read during the service. The Butler County Historical Society invites everyone to a day of celebration honoring the Alabama National Guard Butler County Unit and all veterans of all wars, slated for Saturday, November 11 in Confederate Park. n Disabled American Veterans seek new members

The Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Unit 67 is seeking new members. The unit meets every fourth Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the American Legion Building at the Butler County Fairgrounds.

The unit also has a junior program for ages newborn to age 17.

The unit won first place for community service in the 10 to 50-member category at state competition.

Unit 67 Commander is Alberta Johnson.

&#8220Every Child Deserves A Chance” is now offering free tutoring classes in the areas of reading, English and math on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Greenville Housing Authority Recreation Room to students enrolled in Butler County Schools in grades K-12. n Adult Education Classes

The ADPE through the LBWCC Adult Education Consortium is offering classes for adults who did not complete their high school education or need to strengthen educational and job skills.

Old Greenville High Campus (BCECC) – 6 to 8:30 p.m.
