A brisk fall walk around lovely Beeland Park, coupled with an informative health fair, are on tap for the Camellia City in mid-November.

The Greenville Camellia Senior Center, Greenville and Georgiana Nutrition Centers, along with the South Central Alabama Development Commission-Area Agency on Aging, are sponsoring the Community Wellness Walk for Seniors and Health Fair. The event is slated for Thursday, Nov. 16.

Pre-registration for the walk/fair is November 6-9, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at either the Greenville or Georgiana Senior Centers.

&#8220We wanted to make this as convenient for seniors in south Butler County as possible, so we are doing registration at both places,” City of Greenville Senior Services Director Mary Braden said.

The fee for the event is $5 for adults, age 60 and over, $8 for adults 18-59, and $3 for children 17 and under.

On-site registration is slated for 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Beeland Park in Greenville. The Health Walk begins at 10 a.m. at the park.

&#8220We will be walking in a circle within the park to keep everybody safe and out of the road. Those who want to and are able to make multiple trips are welcome to do so,” Braden said.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., a health fair kicks off at the Greenville Senior Nutrition Center on Cedar St.

Box lunches will be available for the 60-plus seniors to enjoy.

Various healthcare agencies will be on hand to provide valuable information to those in attendance. They will also give flu shots, and conduct health screenings for high blood pressure, diabetes, and other health threats.

&#8220This is a great opportunity for people to get out, get some exercise and enjoy some fresh fall air. They can also find out if there are any possible health problems needing further screening,” Braden said.

&#8220Our goal is to provide assistance for at-risk seniors that will help them remain independent in their own homes for as long as possible.”

There will also be lots of fun door prizes given out. &#8220You do have to register to be eligible for the door prizes,” Braden said.

All monies collected through registration fees will stay &#8220in Butler County to help county seniors,” Braden said.
