The CCA Cougars closed out their regular season in a big way, whipping the Coosa Valley Rebels 25-7. According to Coach Roland Jones, the Cougars are in good shape for the upcoming playoffs.

&uot;We’re in good shape physically with no one with major injuries,” Jones said.

&#8220Teamwise, we have peaked at just the right time. Everyone’s pretty much at the top of their game as we prepare for the playoffs. That doesn’t mean we can let our guard down, though. We have to keep working hard so that we can advance.&uot;

The Cougars trailed briefly in the first quarter then went ahead in the second quarter and led the rest of the way.

Bryan Brasington paved the way at the helm of the Cougars, completing 5 of 11 for 74 yards. His favorite targets were Allen Sasser and Jared Hughes, each snaring a pair of passes.

Jake Page had a huge night, heading up the running attack with 184 yards and 3 scores on 25 carries. Derek Manning added 79 yards on 18 carries while Brasington added a run for a score.

Defensively, Matthew Walden was the leader with 10 stops, while Brasington had 8 and Chafin Johnson 6. Charlie Mack, Weston Byrd and Manning added 5 apiece.

This Friday night, Nov. 3, CCA will host Central Christian Academy of Selma in the opening round of the AISA state playoffs, with the winner advancing to the second round and the loser going home. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
