Tigers defeat Goshen; win region title

The Luverne Tigers used a balanced attack last Friday night to win their region title, as they defeated the Goshen Eagles 33 – 0.

The Tigers gained 497 yards on offense and allowed only 93 yards.

The Tigers started out slow, scoring their first touchdown as time ran out in the first quarter.

The TD came on a 10-yard pass from QB Chad Free to split end Payton McGhee.

The PAT was kicked by Breyman Lowery, and at the start of the second quarter, the Tigers had a 7 – 0 lead.

The Tigers held the Eagles on their first possession of the second quarter and forced a punt that was downed at the Tiger 16 yard line.

Then on their first play from scrimmage in the second quarter, the Tigers hit pay dirt.

Running back Cory Oliver took a hand-off from Free and behind great blocking raced 84 yards for the second Tiger TD of the night.

Lowery kicked the Tigers to a 14 – 0 halftime lead.

The Tigers scored once in the third quarter on a 78-yard punt return by Chad Free.

The PAT was missed, but the Tigers had increased their lead to 20 – 0.

The Tiger defense contained the Eagle offense all night keeping them out of the Tigers' end zone.

The Tigers scored two fourth quarter touchdowns.

The first came with 10:17 left in the game.

The TD came on a 1 yard run by Narvais Cole after a 24-yard drive.

The PAT failed, but the Tigers had a 26-point lead.

The final TD came on an 11 yard run by Micah Wallace.

Alan Foster kicked the PAT, and the Tigers had a 33-point lead, and finished area play undefeated.

The Tigers were led on offense by Cory Oliver with 144 yards on 8 carries.

Payton McGhee had 92 yards on 4 carries.

Narvais Cole tallied 77 yards in 19 totes.

Chad Free gained 59 yards on the ground and 111 through the air on 10 of 17 pass attempts.

On defense, Chad Free set the way as he had two tackles and a 28-yard return of an interception.

Josh Kilpatrick led all defenders with 10 stops.

Cory Oliver and Marco Jones had 6 each.

The Tigers travel to Brantley Thursday night to play the Bulldogs.

Kick off is set for 7 p.m.
