Brantley Class of #8216;66 holds 40th Year Reunion

The Brantley High School Class of 1966 held their 40th year reunion Saturday, September 23, 2006.

The activities

started at 5 p.m. with a tour of the Brantley school campus conducted by Mrs. Kathi Wallace, Superintendent of Education for Crenshaw County.

This was followed by a dinner at Michael's Southern Foods in Brantley.

Those in attendance were

Coston Barlow, James Brunson, Shirley Bryant Williamson, Waylon Catrett, Betty Chandler Stapleton, Jimmy Davis, Retha Davis Hand, Ruby Grant Nichols, Kenneth Hall, Linda Hughes Sexton, Don Killingsworth, Sherby Messick Bryan, Delayney Mitchell Smith, Paul A. Nichols, Lawayne Powell, Shirley Rayburn Peek, Dwight Sasser, Hansel Strickland, Mickey Taylor, Gerald Wallace, Donny Warrick and Shirley Williamson Browne.

With spouses and other guests, there were over 50 people at the celebration.

The class had a memorial candle and pictures of the who members who are deceased.

They were Annette Bryan Bell, James Larry Horn, Rex M. Johnson and Martha J. Morgan Adams.

Many members of the class of ‘66 started firstgrade together and continued together through the twelfth grade.

Some members also continued to be classmates through several of their college classes.

Don Killingsworth, class president, addressed the group with a &#8220Welcome Back” and introduced visiting teachers, Mrs. Elizabeth Henderson, Mrs. Day Pinckard, Mrs. Billie Sasser and Mrs. Peggy Hollis.

Mrs. Sasser told the group of several events she remembered, including candy making in her home to make money for school events.

Linda Hughes Sexton brought up the discussion of purchasing a brick to be inscribed &#8220Class of ‘66” to go in the patio area in downtown Brantley.

This was approved.
