&uot;Bali Hai.&uot; &uot;I’m Gonna Wash that Man Right Outa My Hair.&uot; &uot;Some Enchanted Evening.&uot;

These are just a few of the memorable tunes from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s award-winning Broadway musical, &uot;South Pacific.&uot;

This weekend at the Ritz Theatre in Greenville, approximately 45 students from Fort Dale Academy will be performing on stage and working behind the scenes to mount the ambitious production.

The students have been rehearsing since early October and working hard this week to polish the show.

The story, set in the South Pacific islands during the turbulent days of WW II, focuses on two romances: one between an idealistic nurse and a French plantation owner and the other, a Navy officer and a native girl.

Humor, pathos and heroism ensue during the course of the show, based on James Michener’s book, &uot;Tales of the South Pacific.&uot;

Two shows are slated, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2 and a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Dec. 3.

The show was originally slated for last spring, but scheduling conflicts caused cancellation of the production.

However, &uot;the show will go on,&uot; said director Nonie Taylor.

&uot;It’s been a challenging production. We lost our original &uot;Nellie&uot; when Evie Poole was chosen to serve as a page in Washington, D.C., but Brittany Singleton has stepped in and is doing a great job. We hope to put on two excellent shows this weekend,&uot; Taylor said.

Tickets for &uot;South Pacific&uot; are $5 and will be available at the box office.
