A Greenville man was found guilty of raping and sodomizing the 10-year-old daughter of his then-girlfriend and now faces the possibility of life without parole, according to the Butler County District Attorney's office.

The jury deliberated for several hours before returning a guilty verdict against Robert S. Lloyd, 46, on Wednesday. Lloyd was found guilty of rape, 1st degree, and sodomy, 2nd degree, both Class A felonies in Alabama that can carry anywhere from 10 years to life imprisonment.

&#8220I'd like to thank the jury for ensuring justice was done in this difficult case,” said District Attorney John Andrews. &#8220My office will request a life sentence, the maximum allowed for this crime.”

Circuit Judge Edward McFerrin is scheduled to sentence Lloyd on Jan. 4, according to Andrews.

Andrews said the rape and sodomy occurred the night of Nov. 10, 2002. The victim was the daughter of Lloyd's girlfriend. The victim was spending the night in Lloyd's home on Montezuma Rd. when the rape took place, said Andrews.

Jurors heard testimony from officials with the Department of Human Resources, investigating officers, and a pediatrician who examined the victim following the crime. The pediatrician stated that the victim had both anal and vaginal injuries, said Andrews.

&#8220No question it was the physical examination itself that persuaded the jurors,” said Andrews.

Andrews said the victim - now 14 years old - also testified.

&#8220I'm not really sure she still understands the ramifications - because she's still young,” said Andrews. &#8220But he (Lloyd) stole her innocence. She looked upon him as a father figure and he certainly breached that trust.”

The investigation was conducted by the Butler County Sheriff's Office.
