Crenshaw County Junior Miss Anna Ray Snellgrove is busy getting herself ready for the 2007 Alabama Junior Miss Program, which will be held Friday and Saturday, Jan. 19-20, at Frazer United Methodist Church in Montgomery.

Contestants from all over the state will be on hand to participate in five different categories for the title of Alabama's Junior Miss, which is the top scholarship program for college-bound seniors. Those categories include talent, fitness, self-expression, interview, and a &#8220Be Your Best Self” essay.

Snellgrove is a senior at Crenshaw Christian Academy. She is the daughter of Al and Robyn Snellgrove of Luverne. She has one younger sister, Sarah Cathryn, who is seven.

Snellgrove will be staying with a host family from Jan. 12 until Jan. 21. Her host family is Jimmy and Leigh Blackwell, and her roommate will also be Blount County's Junior Miss, Camille Shirley.

The young ladies have a busy schedule of events already planned for them for the entire week before the two-night program.

&#8220We'll be learning and practicing our fitness and self-expression routines, as well as our opening number dance routine all throughout the week,” Snellgrove said. &#8220We're going to be really busy getting prepared.”

In addition to practice sessions, all of the Junior Miss contestants will attend certain functions such as visiting with the Kiwanis Club of Montgomery, the Lions Club, and Dalraida Elementary School.

There will also be a &#8220father-daughter” dance, or a &#8220Host Dad's Party” Monday evening, Jan. 15, where each contestant will have dinner with her host &#8220dad” and then attend the dance.

&#8220Even though there are a lot of things planned for us during the week, we'll get to take several breaks,” Snellgrove said.

Besides getting ready for the Alabama Junior Miss Program, Snellgrove's activities include the Student Government Association, the Interact Club, Chairperson for Family Day, as well as being a member of Mu Alpha Theta and the English and math teams at CCA. She has also been a member of the dance team for five years, while serving as captain of the dance team during her eleventh grade year. She's a member of the choral and drama teams and serves as editor of the CCA Magazine. Plus, she plays for the Varsity Cougars' basketball team. Snellgrove also won Miss CCA 2006.

After graduating from CCA this year, Snellgrove's future plans include attending the University of Mississippi and majoring in English. Her goal is to pursue her Juris Doctorate at the University of Mississippi Law School.

When it comes to the Alabama Junior Miss Program, Snellgrove said that she &#8220is ready to go.”

&#8220I know several of the girls through Girls' State who will be there, and I'm looking forward to seeing them again,” she said. &#8220Plus, I'm really looking forward to representing my county and my school the very best that I can.”

The first preliminary of the program will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19. The second preliminaries will be held from 1 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, with the finals beginning at 7 p.m. that Saturday evening.
