Lady Eagles win again

Reggie Mantooth's No. 3 ranked Fort Dale Academy Lady Eagles improved to 19-3 on the season Friday night as they had no problem dismissing the Taylor Road Lady Tigers, 45-18.

The Lady Eagles opened up an 18-6 lead in the first period and never looked back. The Fort Dale defense also held the Tigers to just six points in the final period and three points in both the second and third periods.

Jennifer Pouncey led the Eagles with a game-high 16 points and also finished with four steals.

Elizabeth Dunklin and Morgan Pouncey were next for the Lady Eagles with six points apiece and teammate Ulli Sandstrom finished with five points.

Michelle Hulick had a team-high 10 rebounds and also finished with four points.

For Taylor Road, Danielle Petty had a team-high eight points and Dorothy Vaughns had six.

Megan Smith also had four points in the loss.

The Lady Eagles will return to action Friday as they travel to Selma to take on the Morgan Senators.

Fort Dale 54, Clarke Prep 41

The Pouncey's, Jennifer and Morgan, were hard to stop January 16 as they both scored in double digits and led the Fort Dale Lady Eagles to victory over the Clarke Prep Lady Gators, 54-41.

Jennifer was the leading scorer for the Eagles with 24 points, including six three pointers, while Morgan finished with 16 points.

Fort Dale 49, Cottage Hill 44

Trailing by five points at the end of the third period, the Fort Dale Lady Eagles, determined not to quit, pulled together and pulled out the win January 13 over the Cottage Hill Lady Warriors, 49-44.

Jennifer Pouncey was the leading scorer for the Lady Eagles with 21 points while teammate Morgan Pouncey finished with 10 points.

Fort Dale 57, Morgan 37

Michelle Hulick finished with a double-double January 11 as the Fort Dale Lady Eagles cruised to the 57-37 win over the rival Morgan Academy Lady Senators.

Hulick had a team-high 10 rebounds while also finished with 10 points.

Jennifer Pouncey was the leading scorer for the Eagles with 24 points while Sweden native Ulli Sandstrom finished with 10 points.

Varsity boys

Although the Fort Dale varsity basketball team was down by just four points at the end of the first half Friday night, it was as close as they would get as the Taylor Road Tigers cruised to the 54-39 victory.

Fort Dale junior Bobby Martin came out on fire for the Eagles, accounting for all eight of the Eagles' first period points.

Martin finished the game with 15 points and a team-high six rebounds.

Senior Ty Newton had 12 points for the Eagles while junior Davis Watts finished with nine points and five rebounds.

For the Tigers, Micah Allen had a team-high 12 points, followed by Brandon Howard with 11 points and Tony Smith with eight points.

The Eagles return to action Friday as they travel to Selma to take on the rival Morgan Academy Senators.

Bobby Martin had double-double for the second time in a week January 16 as the Fort Dale Eagles cruised to a 54-40 win over the Clarke Prep Gators.

Martin finished with a game-high 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Junior Davis Watts also had a big game for the Eagles, finishing with eight points.

Cottage Hill 67, Fort Dale 46

Bobby Martin had a team-high 12 points for the Fort Dale Eagles January 13, but it wasn't enough as the Cottage Hill Warriors took the win, 67-46.

Senior Ty Newton was the next leading scorer for the Eagles with eight points.

Fort Dale 65, Morgan 47

Juniors Bobby Martin and Davis Watts put together a spectacular performance January 11 as they led the Fort Dale Eagles to victory over the rival Morgan Senators, 65-47.

Martin finished the night with a double-double, including a team-high 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Watts finished the night with an impressive 14 points.

JV girls

The Fort Dale Academy junior varsity girl's basketball team suffered just their third loss of the season Saturday, but it was a tough one to swallow as Faith Academy bounced the JV Lady Eagles from the state tournament, 31-24.

Although the JV Lady Eagles held the Lady Rams to just 2-of-15 from the three-point line, Faith hit both of those three pointers in the final minutes to pull away at the end.

The Eagles held the lead through three periods, but the Rams' full-court pressure coupled with 29 Fort Dale turnovers proved too much.

Emily Boulware was the leading scorer for the JV Lady Eagles with seven points, followed by Jessie Langford with six points.

Brittany Huckaba and Abbey Martin each had four points while Murphy Middleton finished with three. Middleton also had a team-high 11 rebounds.

Fort Dale 33, Taylor Road 16

Emily Boulware had a game-high 17 points Friday night to lead the Fort Dale junior varsity Lady Eagles past the Taylor Road Lady Tigers, 33-16.

Abbey Martin was next for the JV Lady Eagles with seven points while Jessie Langford and Murphy Middleton each finished with four points apiece. Martin also finished with a team-high six rebounds and seven steals.
