The McKenzie Tigers basketball season came to a close Thursday night as the Brantley Bulldogs upended both the girls and the varsity in the area tournament and advanced to the championship game,

In the varsity game, four players scored in double digits, but it wasn't enough as the Bulldogs hung 85 points on the Tigers to take the win, 85-60.

The Tigers trailed by just seven points at the end of the first period, but the Bulldogs opened that lead to 20 at the half and never looked back.

Brandon Kent was the leading scorer for the Tigers with 20 points, followed by Jeffrey Adams with 16 points and Jarvis Womack and Sattrick Rudolph with 10 points apiece.

Curtis Ball and Elrick Ball also each had two points in the loss.

For the Bulldogs, senior Jeffrey Daniels, who signed with Troy on a football scholarship Wednesday, was the leading scorer with a game-high 26 points.

Kevin Pitts also had 20 points in the win.

In the girl's game, the Bulldogs opened an 8-0 lead over the Lady Tigers to start the game and that would be as close as the Tigers would get.

Although the Bulldogs held a 22-4 lead with just seconds remaining in the first period, LaRonica Peterson nailed a three at the buzzer to send the fans to their feet and to cut the Bulldog lead to 15.

The Bulldogs opened that lead back up to 23 at the half and increased it to 40 at the end of the third before taking the victory, 68-23.

Amber Rudolph was the leading scorer for the Tigers with 10 points, followed by Peterson with nine points and Aleshia Stuckey and Ball with two points apiece.
