Mayor Dexter McLendon issued a proclamation on Monday night recognizing Feb. 18 - 24 as Arbor Week.

McLendon presented the proclamation to city horticulturist Jennifer Stringer. Stringer said the city would recognize National Arbor Day next Tuesday, Feb. 20 and distribute tree seedlings in Confederate Park from 9 a.m. to noon for anyone interested.

&#8220Hopefully, people will plant trees to honor National Arbor Day - or maybe prune a tree,” she said.

Councilman Jeddo Bell asked McLendon to offer an update on construction projects in the city. McLendon said with plans for the movie theatre finalized, construction should start on the building within the next couple of weeks, as well as on the new Holiday Inn Express.

&#8220(City Inspector) Eddie Anderson said over the next six months we should see more construction than we've seen in the last two or three years,” said McLendon. &#8220We've been talking about growth in Greenville about to happen, now it's happening. We're going to see more and more of that.”
