Special to The Journal

It's a team building activity like no other, and it is a fun way to take part in the fight against cancer. It's

the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life, the nation's largest fundraiser.

Team recruitment is now underway for the Relay For Life of Crenshaw County.

Relay For Life is a non-competitive, overnight event. Teams are recruited from businesses, clubs, families, friends, hospitals, churches, schools and service organizations. Each group chooses a team theme, and members take turns walking or running around a track during the night. Games and activities held during the event make it a festive occasion.

&#8220We invite everyone in the community to take part in the Relay For Life,” Melissa Adams, team recruitment chair, said. &#8220Where else can you have so much fun and support such an important cause?”

&#8220I know that oftentimes someone is interested in being involved but just aren't sure what they can do, so that is why I am here to answer any questions they might have and to offer support,” Adams added.

If anyone is interested in forming a team or working with a team, please contact Adams at 334-335-5638.

For organizations or groups who do not feel that they are large enough to form a team but who would like to be part of Relay For Life, they could serve as a sponsor.

There are various levels of sponsorship from $150 and up.

For information regarding sponsorship opportunities, please contact Kathy Smyth, Sponsorship Chair,

at 334-335-3168.

Money raised from the event supports American Cancer Society research, education, advocacy and patient service programs.
