City Jaycees seek candidates for Citizen of the Year award

Do you know an individual who is making a real and positive difference in the local community?

If so, the Greenville Jaycees want to hear from you.

&#8220We are now taking nominations for our annual John D. Murphy Citizen of the Year Award,” said T.J. Jernigan, COY chairman for the Jaycees.

The guidelines for nominations are: the nominee must be a resident of the Greenville School District; must have made a contribution for the betterment of community over a sustained period; must show commitment and contributions through church, social, business, school, chamber or other community-related endeavors, and must be a role model reflecting strong character and ideals.

&#8220We are asking the community to help us by submitting their nominees. We need their nomination letters no later than Monday, April 2,” Jernigan said.

The award will be presented at Main Street of Greenville's annual Summer Social (date and location to be announced).

Last year's recipient of the award was Rev. Fred Lindstrom, rector of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, police chaplain and president of the Greenville Ministerial Association.
