After falling to the Brantley Bulldogs twice three weeks ago, the Greenville Tigers varsity baseball team regrouped this week and downed the No. 7 Class 1A Bulldogs twice Monday afternoon to improve to 9-6 on the season.

&#8220When we played (Brantley) down there, we were dead,” Greenville head coach Brad Horn said. &#8220We played like we should (Monday).”

During the first game, the Tigers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back en route to the 6-2 victory.

Offensively for the Tigers, Demarcus Robinson was the leading hitter with a 2-for-4 performance, including a second-inning two-run homerun blast.

&#8220Demarcus Robinson has really stepped up for us,” Horn said. &#8220He has moved from our No. 7 hitter to our lead off.”

Lynn Lewis, Zac Smith, Josh Longmire and Marcus Mickles also each scattered a hit for Greenville. Smith finished with a double, a run scored and an RBI while Longmire knocked in two RBI's. Lewis, who finished second all-time in the state of Alabama in single-season stolen bases last season, had two steals in the win.

For the Bulldogs, Austin Brock was the leading hitter with a seventh-inning double. Roy Knighten, Wesley Hall and Pat Kilcrease also each had a hit in the loss.

On the mound, Lewis improved to 2-1 by earning the complete-game win for Greenville while also striking out six batters.

&#8220Lynn has really stepped up on his pitching,” Horn said. &#8220(Monday) was what we were looking for.”

Greenville returns to action Tuesday as they play host to the area foe Demopolis Tigers at 6 p.m. Greenville, 0-1 in the area, fell to Demopolis last week, 6-0.

&#8220They got us the first time so we've got to go after them,” Horn said.

Greenville 4, Brantley 1 (Game 2)

The Greenville Tigers scored two runs in the first inning and added two more in the fifth inning Monday afternoon, proving to be enough as the Brantley Bulldogs could only muster one run in the 4-1 loss.

At the plate, Ethan Mauch was the leading hitter with a 2-for-3 performance, including a double and a run scored.

Demarcus Robinson, Lynn Lewis, Casey Weston, Zac Smith and Antonio Smith also each had a hit for Greenville. Robinson scored a team-high two runs while Mauch and Lewis each scored one. Lewis also had a double in the win.

For Brantley, Austin Brock, Anthony Gulley, Chase Haws, Wesley Hall, Chase Hall and Pat Kilcrease each had a hit in the loss.

On the mound, Mauch earned the complete-game win for the Tigers to improve to 2-0 while Haws picked up the loss for the Bulldogs. Mauch struck out five batters in the win.

Greenville 18, Pike County 4 (Game 1)

The Greenville Tigers batted around in the fourth inning Saturday, scoring 10 runs to put away the Pike County Bulldogs, 18-4.

Greenville got off to hot start, scoring three runs in the first inning, and then the Tigers added one more run in the second and four in the third before the huge, 10-run fourth.

Offensively for the Tigers, Antonio Smith was a perfect 3-for-3, Casey Weston was 3-for-4, Zac Smith was 2-for-2, Marcus Mickles was 2-for-3 and Demarcus Robinson finished 1-for-3. Antonio Smith finished with a double, three RBI's and two runs scored, followed by Weston with a homerun, three RBI's and two runs scored, Zac Smith with a homerun and a team-high three runs and five RBI's, Mickles with one run scored, two RBI's and two steals and Robinson with two runs scored and four RBI's.

For Pike County, Devin Allen, Cameron Luker, Quayle Bryant and Cory Lee each finished with a hit. Allen also scored two runs while Benton and Davis each scored one.

Greenville's Stephen Croley earned the win while striking out six batters. Allen picked up the loss for Pike County.

Greenville 20, Pike County 10 (Game 2)

In a game where the scoring looked more like a football than baseball, the Greenville Tigers completed the double-header sweep Saturday as they downed the Pike County Bulldogs, 20-10.

The Tigers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning, increased it to 13-0 in the second inning after batting around and eventually made the score 15-0 in the third inning before the Bulldogs mounted a comeback.

The Bulldogs scored all 10 runs in the final two innings, but the Tigers also added five more runs to end the game via the mercy rule.

Offensively for the Tigers, Josh Longmire was 4-for-4, Cordez Peagler was 3-for-6, Marcus Mickles was 2-for-2 and Antonio Smith, Stephen Croley and Jamontay Pilson were each 2-for-3 in the win.

Zac Smith, Ryan Smith, Nathan Palmer, Demarcus Robinson and Stewart Moody also each had a hit.

Longmire and Croley also each belted a homerun.

For the Bulldogs, Devin Allen was the leading hitter with a fourth-inning grand slam, followed by Blake Turner with a pair of singles and Cameron Luker and Hubert Davis each with a hit.

Croley earned the win for Greenville, striking out five, while Corey Lee picked up the loss for Pike County.

No. 2 Charles Henderson 7, Greenville 6

After falling to the No. 2 Charles Henderson Trojans twice by the mercy rule in the season-opening double-header, the Greenville Tigers faired much better Friday but fell just short as the Trojans held off the Tigers' rally, 7-6.

&#8220We came up just short, but that could be the turning point in our season,” Horn said.

Offensively for the Tigers, Lynn Lewis was 2-for-3 while Ethan Mauch, Casey Weston, Demarcus Robinson and Marcus Mickles each had a hit.

For the Trojans, Drew Vaughan, Sam Jones and Daniel Hartley were each 2-for-3 while Logan Pierce was 1-for-3 with a homerun.

Tanner Hensley earned the win for the Trojans while Parker Winters fell to 1-3 with the loss.
