Brantley School News

Things are bloomin' in Brantley and not just on Main Street.

Our varsity girls' and boys' basketball teams were very successful and made it to the Regional Tournament in Troy.

They both received Region runner-up trophies for their hard work.

We had two shining stars from these teams.

They are Taronda Randall and Kevin Pitts. Taronda will participate in All-Stars this summer, and Kevin has been nominated for 1A Player of the Year. Their coaches are Mr. Andrew Kilcrease and Mrs. Shelly Davis.

Another group that's bloomin' is the FFA Soil Judging Team.

They recently traveled to Verbena and competed in State Competition.

They placed 4th and are eligible to participate in the National Competition in Oklahoma.

Members of the team are Taylor Andrews, Justin Frazier, Landon Morgan, Amanda Rayborn, and Jeromy Nott.

The FFA sponsor is Mr. Mark Andrews.

Things are also blossoming in the elementary department.

The faculty and students are working very hard to prepare for standardized tests.

They recently celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday by participating in &#8220Read Across America” activities.

They had a special visit from the Cat in the Hat (Tyreek Bell, senior).

Several local celebrities, including Miss Laura McDonald, Miss Troy University; Mr. Bernie Sullivan, Mayor of Brantley; Mrs. Judy Woolley, Councilwoman; Mr. Willie Smith and Mr. Troy Hudson, School Board members, all read to the elementary students.

It was a fun day for all.

Tune in next week to learn what's blooming on the Baseball Diamond.
