The 38th annual Miss CCA Pageant took the audience back to the 1970's, to the disco era, one of the biggest dance craze movements of all time. Back then, people were bitten by the &#8220disco bug,” and headed to the dance floor in droves, coming alive with strobe lights and flashing colored dance floors and lighted disco balls doing the hustle and many other disco moves.

Remember the days of six-inch platform shoes, gold chains, thigh-high mini skirts, leisure suits, and the infamous John Travolta hit, Saturday Night Fever?

The Miss CCA contestants, featuring Miss CCA 2006, Anna Ray Snellgrove and John Travolta, also known as Anna Ray's dad, Al Snellgrove, opened the program with a disco dance number to &#8220Disco Inferno” by the Trammps.

Miss Snellgrove then introduced the emcee for the night's program, Judd Davis, co-host of WSFA Channel 12's &#8220Today in Alabama.” This is his third year to emcee the program.

The thirteen contestants competed in evening gown, talent, and interview portions of the pageant.

They included sophomores Jordan Bowers, daughter of Bobbie Bowers and the late Rick Bowers of Brantley, who performed a pointe dance to &#8220Boogie Shoes,” ; Carrie Baggett, daughter of Ronnie and Johnnie Baggett of Goshen, who performed a monologue from &#8220Funny Girl”;

Daisye Williams, daughter of Ken (‘77) and Jenifer Williams of Vidette, who performed a tap dance to &#8220On Broadway”;

and Danielle Welch, daughter of Bartley (‘73) and Shelby Welch of Honoraville, who performed a vocal solo to &#8220Go Light Your World.”

The juniors participating in the pageant were Holland Sport, daughter of Tom and Beverly Sport of Luverne and Dr. Charles and Susan ('84) Tompkins of Brantley, who performed a vocal solo to &#8220For Good”;

Megan Sport, daughter of Merrill and Lisa (‘79) Sport of Luverne, who performed a jazz dance to &#8220I'm a Woman”;

Ashley Newton, daughter of Steve and Brenda Newton of Honoraville, who performed a vocal solo to &#8220Someone to Watch Over Me”;

Chelsea Petrey, daughter of William (‘76) and Neva (‘77) Petrey of Luverne, who performed a vocal solo to &#8220Blue Skies”; and Kelsie Moody, daughter of Terry and Sue Moody of Goshen, who performed a gymnastics routine to &#8220Born to Be Wild.”

The seniors participating in the program were Laura Bees, daughter of Jim and Patty Bees of Rutledge, who performed a jazz dance to &#8220Play That Funky Music”; Paige Kelley, daughter of Chrissy and Ron Kelley of Luverne, who performed a vocal solo to &#8220Beauty and the Beast”;

Lacey Phillips, daughter of Allen and Joy Phillips of Luverne, who performed a clogging routine to &#8220A Friend Like Me”;

and Lauryn Beck, daughter of Ricky and Connie (‘80) Beck of Luverne, who performed a jazz dance to &#8220I Just Want To Be Happy.”

Thirteen girls from the 7th-9th grades were chosen as little sisters to the contestants and provided entertainment

dancing to &#8220Shake Your Groove Thing” by Peaches and Herb.

Also providing entertainment for the program was 8th grader Sadie Jones, daughter of Mike and Stephanie (Alum. ‘77) Jones of Luverne, who performed her award- winning competition dance to &#8220Knock On Wood” by Amii Stewart.

For additional entertainment, CCA Alumni Kyle Richburg, (‘78) and his band entertained the crowd with numerous disco and oldies' numbers throughout the night.

Davis concluded the evening by thanking everyone involved with the pageant and announcing the winners.

The new Miss CCA 2007 was senior Laura Bees, who was also top ad sales winner; first runner up and talent winner was senior Lauryn Beck; second runner up was junior Chelsea Petrey; third runner up was junior Megan Sport; and fourth runner up and poise winner was sophomore Jordan Bowers.

Interview winner was senior Lacey Phillips, and Miss Congeniality was senior Paige Kelley.

Special thanks were given to the cast and contestants for their hard work and effort in supporting the pageant through the ad sales for the program book.

Special thanks were also given to the contestants' escorts for their support of the girls. This year, the pageant recognized the escorts with a competition of their own. Sophomore Michael Jackson won top escort for the evening. The pageant was under the direction of Mrs. Cindy Morgan.
