A house owned by Carrie Curtis of Luverne was completely destroyed by fire Sunday evening.

The Luverne Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call at 5:26 p.m. to a home located at 4459 Brantley Highway, directly across from the entrance to the Crenshaw County Lake.

The LVFD responded with four units and found that the house was well involved in flames upon their arrival, according to William Neal, LVFD Assistant Fire Chief.

Neal said that LVFD requested and received assistance from Brantley Volunteer Fire Department and from Spring Hill Volunteer Fire Department. The Luverne Rescue Squad also responded to the scene.

&#8220The house was basically gutted by the fire,” Neal said.

The house was being occupied by Michael Turman at the time of the fire. Turman lost almost all of his possessions in the fire.

Heavy thunderstorms rolled through Crenshaw County Sunday and early Monday morning, but Neal said that the fire rekindled around 4 a.m. on Monday, April 2, and required a second response from the LVFD. However, what was left to burn was only the shell of the house; it was totally destroyed by the Monday morning fire.

&#8220We never entered the house the second time because it was structurally unsound and unsafe,” Neal said.
