From March 28-March 30, Mrs. Laura Elliott of Petrey attended the 32nd Annual Community Education Association and 21st Century Community Learning Center Conference in Mobile, Ala.

At the conference, Mrs. Elliott was elected President of the Alabama Community Education Association and the 21st Century Community Learning Center.

She also received the Peggy Spain McDonald Bright Idea Award for outstanding accomplishments and services in multicultural exchange programs.

In addition, Mrs. Elliott nominated Mr. Charles Merrill Sport for State Volunteer of the Year, Probate Judge James Perdue for State Outstanding Benefactor, and Mrs. Judy Manning (state consultant for Community Education) for the Charles Stewart Mott award.

All of the aforementioned nominees won the awards for which they were nominated for their outstanding contributions which foster the programs of community education.

The LBWCC and Crenshaw County Schools will be hosting next year's conference.

n Last Tuesday, March 27, Mrs. Laura Elliott, director of LBWCC Luverne Center, Mr. Jim Krudop, Vice-President of LBWCC, and Mr. Graham Dunn from Faulkner University, presented the program at the weekly Luverne Kiwanis Club meeting.

n On Saturday, March 31, Mr. Stephen Stanley and Mrs. Tara McLaney were honored with a dinner at Jubilee Restaurant in Montgomery,

to celebrate their engagement and upcoming wedding on April 21.

Twelve guests were in attendance.

n On Saturday, March 31, the young adults of Petrey UMC decorated the church grounds with a wooden cross draped in a purple satin cloth topped with a grapevine &#8220crown of thorns” wreath.

A spotlight draws attention to this symbolic feature at night.

n On Sunday, April 1, the children of the Petrey UMC presented a small program at the beginning of the 10 a.m. worship service by marching into the sanctuary to the tune of &#8220He Lives” waving palm branches to symbolize Jesus' triumphant entrance into Jerusalem before his crucifixion.

Ms. Ashley Meadows provided the piano music while Miss Lara Leigh Kelley, Miss Jachlynn Taylor, and Mr. Blake Meadows re-enacted the event.

Mr. Blake Meadows led the &#8220Call to Worship” by reading a passage about Palm Sunday from the Cokesbury Hymnal.

n Petrey UMC will also be hosting its Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 7, from 2 p.m.-4 p.m.

All children of any age are invited to attend.

n On Friday, March 30, Mr. Raymond and Mrs. Bonnie Trotter attended a retirement dinner honoring Mr. Jack Money at the Chicken Shack at 7 p.m.

n On Friday, March 30, Ms. Ashley Meadows hosted a Kelly Kids party at her home in Petrey.

Her co-worker (from Elba High School) and friend, Mrs. Yvette Ackeridge, served as the Kelly Kids representative.

Several ladies from the community attended the event.

n Last weekend, Miss Addison Tranum, daughter of Drew and Ashley Tranum, celebrated her 3rd birthday at Campground UMC.

A &#8220Dora the Explorer” theme was used to decorate the church, and Addison enjoyed the company of many family, friends, and church members who were in attendance.

n On Monday, April 2, Mrs. Janice Bell of Elba led the Passover Seder at South Luverne Baptist Church with Mrs. Nancy Petrey assisting.

n Live Oak UMC would like to announce its Easter Service to take place on April 8 at 9 a.m.

Live Oak UMC will also be celebrating its homecoming on April 15 at 11 a.m. with a noon lunch to follow.

Everyone is invited to bring one covered dish and attend the events.

n On Thursday, April 5, a lunch will be served at Petrey Community Center to raise money for Relay for Life.

The members of the Relay for Life team will be serving ham, corn on the cob, cabbage, cornbread, cake, and a drink for $6.

n Campground UMC would like to announce their Easter schedule of events for this week:

n Wednesday night at 7 p.m., everyone is invited to watch the movie The Passion of the Christ.

n Thursday night at 7 p.m., everyone is invited to attend the Maundy Thursday worship service.

n Friday night at 7 p.m., everyone is invited to attend the Good Friday (with Tenebrea) worship service.

n Saturday morning at 11 a.m., everyone is invited to attend the Easter egg hunt.

n Sunday morning at 7 a.m., everyone is invited to attend the Easter Sunrise Service with a breakfast in the fellowship hall to follow.
