In spite of inclement weather last weekend, the outlook was sunny at the Greenville-Butler County Public Library.

According to Burke McFerrin, head librarian, more than $900 was raised  during the library's two-day Used Book Sale.

Friday night's sneak preview sale at 5 p.m. brought a crowd ready to pay their $5 fee and fill their tote bags and boxes with book bargains.

And not just books. Ramona Martin was delighted to discover a collection of vintage gramophone records at the sale. &#8220We've actually got a working gramophone at home, so I am so glad to find these.”

She was even more excited to find out the records were just $1 each.

In fact, everything - records, tapes, books, magazines and other material - was priced 50 cents to $1, making a sale most anyone could afford.

&#8220The event was certainly a success. The great thing is we got a lot of good books into a lot of Butler

County homes, some of which could never have afforded them otherwise. That makes me feel good,” McFerrin said.

As in the past, the monies raised will be used for special projects at the library.

&#8220We bought the display case in the foyer one year; another year we bought chairs for our children's room. We used the monies from three years of sales to purchase tables for the auditorium and the children's room,” McFerrin explained.

This Saturday morning, Super Saturday returns to the library with a &#8220Run for the Roses - the Kentucky Derby.”

Three, four and five-year-old children are invited to attend the 9:30 session while 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders are slated for 11 a.m. Crafts, stories, music and refreshments are all part of the day.
