Cardinals and Pirates open G#039;ana Parks and Rec. season with wins

The Cardinals scored seven runs in the final inning Saturday to overcome a 9-5 deficit to take their first Georgiana Parks and Recreation Department Dixie Youth win of the season, 12-9.

Offensively for the Cardinals (1-1), Rodney Cheatham was 2-for-2 with a double and three runs scored and Justin Oikle was 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored.

Rakeem Hugler and Mike each scattered a hit and scored two runs apiece, including a double by Hugler, while Artney Peterson, Zack Compton and Matt Lewis each scattered a hit and scored a run. Lewis also had a triple while Hugler had a double.

Tyler Smith also scored a run in the win.

For the Braves (0-1), Chance House was 2-for-2 with a triple and run scored while Jay Williams, Zack Gaston, Chris Cobb, Keandra Peterson and Hunter Smith each had a hit.

Lacory Hall and Cobb each scored two runs while Williams, Gaston, Peterson and Matt Colvin each scored one.

The Cardinals and Braves will match up once again Thursday at 7 p.m.

Pirates 7, Cardinals 4

Jody House was 2-for-2 with two runs scored Saturday to help lift the Pirates to victory over the Cardinals, 7-4.

Matt Sheffield, Devin Bonner and Richard Boggan were each 1-for-2 with a run scored, including a triple by Boggan in the first inning.

Orlando Franks also scored two runs for the Pirates (1-0) while Seth Kelley scored one run.

For the Cardinals, Zack Compton and Rodney Cheatham were each 2-for-2, with Cheatham scoring two runs and Compton scoring one.

Kyle Compton also had a hit for the Cardinals.

The Pirates will return to action Thursday as they take on the Braves at 6 p.m.
